Good luck to all athletes, cheer on your friends and enjoy the day. Medals are awarded for the first 3 place getters in each event.
There are also PB medals awarded on the day to acknowledge athletes who did not place on the podium in the event but achieved their personal best, for these medals please head to the pavilion once your hand is stamped at each event. (note one PB medal per athlete not per event).
Please check the timetable carefully, it has been created so that no athlete has a clash but if we run behind this may change. Reminder your athlete only competes in the events you entered them, not every event for their age group. We will have a list of entrants in the Pavilion if you need to check.
For field events you will need to head to the ‘call room’ in the pavilion, closest to canteen side to have your name marked off before you proceed to the event, for track please listen out to the calls and head to start line once called. Please advise call room if you have ANY CLASH.
No parents on the inside of the track of field unless you are on duty.
The duty roster sign up for this Saturday can be accessed via the link below, we will need all slots filled to ensure a smooth program on the day. We would like to thank everyone for all your assistance this week and throughout the season, I hope you have enjoyed watching your children compete and learn the skills of athletics.
Well done to all our athletes who competed at Western Metro Regional Track and Field last weekend at Corio, we had a huge turnout of athletes with some amazing results. Stay tuned to LaVic website for State Qualifiers available on 24th Feb.
SAVE THE DATE- Sunday 5th April. Presentation and AGM, details TBA
At our AGM we would love to see new members join our committee, we meet once a month (normally Wednesday evening for about 1.30-2 hr) at the track to plan and organise the season, many of our current committee have athletes in the Open age groups so would love to share knowledge with new members to continue into the future for Williamstown. We are happy if you can spare a little or a lot of time, all our current members juggle full time work, the more we share the load the easier on all, if you want to find out more, come chat to us at the Pavillion.
All summer athletes have the opportunity to compete in our winter cross country program, your fees include both seasons. Cross Country is a smaller group of athletes who run distances from 1km-3km, the season normally runs from May-July. Our home is Newport Lakes for winter but we move between other local venues including Altona, Werribee and Brimbank so the courses are varied for athletes, its is a fairly relaxed environment for young kids to start to enjoy distance races. Stay tuned for details of season starter, great way for kids to stay fit over the winter months.

This Saturday’s coaching focus for our U9-U16 age groups is hurdles on the back straight from 0900. This week our U13-U16 athletes start from 0930 with hurdles. SKILLS BITE FOR VOLUNTEERS – Long Jump
U7-U10 jump from a sand covered mat, measurements are from the front of the foot on the mat to the back of the body part landed in the pit, ideally a foot, however if they fall and place hands/bottoms down it is taken from the closest body part to the mat. The distance between the two points is their measured jump.
U11-U16 use the painted bar. As U11 are using the bar for the first year and getting used to a narrower take off area if they take off from behind the bar their measurements are taken from the back edge of the bar, all other age groups measurements are taken from the front edge of the bar (closest to the pit).
All athletes must wear WLAC uniforms (shorts and top) and their LaVic patch whilst participating; they can be purchased at the track every Saturday details of items and prices available and on Team App under Resources.

Little Athletics Victoria - Junior Development Squad
The Junior Development Squad (JDS) gives U12 – U16 athletes an opportunity to develop additional skills and improve technical competencies through participation in coaching and training sessions with some of Victoria’s leading coaches. Training with other keen and enthusiastic squad members is both fun and motivational and helps develop new friendships based on an enjoyment of athletics. The emphasis on learning new athletic skills and improving existing ones is in a friendly and supportive environment.
To join JDS, athletes must achieve the qualifying standard in their current age group of the season. Athletes must achieve one standard on two separate occasions or two different standards, once. This ensures that the performances show a consistency and not just a once off.
Click on the PDF and scroll right down to the bottom for the registration link.
